Do you agree that the food produced by using the Recombinant DNA Techniques is safe?
The food produced by the Recombinant DNA Techniques is not safe from three perspectives: intake, environment, and security.
First and foremost, genetically modified organisms may damage people when eaten. Indeed, many organizations, such as the Codex Alimentarius Commission or governments, prescribe the rules or regulations on the crops. The commercial cultivation with the technology began in 1996, however, its long-term risk has not been proven.
Second, the products may hurt ecosystems. For example, when controlling genes, biotechnology could activate detrimental ones, impairing or destroying surrounding creatures. The consequences of the methodology on conventional plants or animals remain to be seen. Furthermore, once artificial genes mix with natural ones, they cannot be undone.
Last but not least, the biological process may hinder the security of food supply. For instance, only large companies can develop the flora and fauna that contains the DNA. Citizens cannot know if all data is disclosed and right, since such corporations dominate it. Additionally, small businesses might be forced to buy goods from chemical firms, including Bayer, albeit expensive. In reality, some herbicides are sold with the modified seeds that are resistant to them.
Given a food crisis, GMOs may be needed, nevertheless, we should consider their safety carefully.
