Agree or disagree: Electronic voting should be promoted.
Electronic voting should be promoted for three reasons: accessibility, quick counting results, and legibility.
First and foremost, electronic voting makes voting easier. Voting is possible from everywhere, including in foreign countries, through smartphones or computers. In addition, older persons do not have to go to the polls, leading to a less burden of elections. The system is beneficial to election administration committees as they do not need to prepare polls and ballots.
Second, electronic voting hastens the tallying of votes. While traditional paper ballots take time counting, even if dedicated machines are used, electronic ballots can be calculated immediately. Indeed, TV stations may prefer paper to broadcast election special programs, but waiting for the election results is just a waste of time.
Last but not least, electronic voting ensures the accurate identification of candidates. Paper ballots may cause illegible handwriting, not reflecting the will of a voter. Moreover, the Japanese two parties, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan and the Democratic Party For the People, use the same abbreviation of “Minshuto (Democratic Party)” for elections, so when the term is written, the vote is proportionally allocated. Electronic voting can avoid such situations using identifying codes or other ways.
Electronic voting may have flaws, nevertheless, should be introduced for the above-mentioned reasons.
