Agree or disagree: Food shortages will be eliminated in the future.
Food shortages will be eliminated in the future with three technologies: aquaculture, hydroponics and genetic-engineering.
First, aquaculture has advanced. Needless to say, it is a conventional way to raise fish, however, it has improved steadily. For example, Kindai University succeeded in completely culturing bluefin tunas and artificially incubating Japanese eels, enriching dining tables. Humans do not need to depend on oceans or rivers thanks to the method, which also leads to preserving marine organisms.
Second, hydroponics, namely, agriculture in water, has developed. To nurture plants, soil is considered to be indispensable, but today, it is possible without ground, which means that vegetables and fruits are able to be grown in buildings or structures. The so-called “plants for plants” can be created in places where it was traditionally impossible, including metropolises, contributing to urban agriculture or something.
Last but not least, genetic-engineering helps reinforce the food supply. The technique makes new species which can endure the harsh environment such as arid areas or deserts, boosting the development of new lands. Furthermore, biotechnology brings disease-resistant plants, resulting in more harvests. Additionally, the high-tech produces livestock which is easier to raise, promoting meat production.
Indeed, people are increasing, nevertheless, mankind can overcome the challenge with the above-mentioned manners.
