Should children read more books?
Children should read more books to improve the following three abilities: knowledge, understanding, and concentration.
First and foremost, reading improves linguistic competence. For example, knowing many words and phrases through books enlarges children’s vocabulary, developing their eloquence. In addition, children can collect much information and learn disciplines systematically by reading, so their academic abilities get higher, leading to higher education, and then a great career.
Second, reading increases comprehension. As children imagine scenes or characters’ emotions especially when they read novels or non-fictions, their brains and mentation are activated, and therefore creativity and empathy are heightened. Hence, in reality, they can hear other people and consider their feelings, judging people accurately, making good friends and avoiding troubles. Reading contributes to intelligence as well as communication skills and sociality, which are conducive to being a member of society.
Last but not least, reading cultivates attention. As books require children to follow plots carefully compared to TV or comics, they boost endurance. As such, they become able to devote themselves completely to studying for a long time. Additionally, when such children grow into adults, they can work diligently.
Reading is beneficial to work and life, so children should read many books aggressively.
