Should tobacco products be banned?
Tobacco products should be banned from three perspectives: health, environment and education.
First and foremost, tobacco products adversely affect human bodies. For example, tobacco includes about 200 toxic substances, including nicotine, which is addictive, tar and carbon monoxide, and around 60 carcinogens, increasing the risk of ischemic heart diseases, strokes and some types of cancers. In addition, exposure to sidestream smoke from passive smoking can harm individuals who are near smokers. Smoking is a preventable etiology, hence, prohibiting tobacco can prevent people from unnecessary health damage.
Second, tobacco products make the surroundings dirty. Smokers often throw away cigarette stubs on the streets or rivers, which not only disfigures the landscape but also harms the soil or water and may lead to fires. Additionally, these discarded cigarette stubs contribute to environmental pollution and pose a risk to wildlife.
Last but not least, tobacco products corrupt the morals of children. Minors tend to smoke cigarettes prompted by just curiosity or temptations from classmates or seniors, however, they are more susceptible to smoking than adults, which means they are more likely to suffer diseases or poisoning. Additionally, some research shows that nicotine dependence from smoking may cause other drug dependence.
Tobacco is all pain, no gain, so should be forbidden completely. Only by implementing a comprehensive ban on tobacco can we protect public health and the environment, ensuring a brighter and smoke-free future for all.
