The lack of women’s rights is a serious problem in Japan.
The lack of women’s rights is not a serious problem in Japan in terms of three points: politics, career and abortion.
First, since 1945, Japanese adult people, despite their sex, have had equal rights for elections. Women as well as men can vote and run for representatives. Indeed, Japanese female legislative members are far fewer than male ones. But, it is the question of customs and mentality, not rights.
Second, Japanese women have the same chances for careers as men do. In Afghanistan, after the Taliban controls the country, women are robbed of opportunities for education and work. Even some Afghan female ex-judges escaped from their country due to fears that they may be killed by the Islamic group. Japanese women’s problems do not directly cause death.
Third, in Japan, abortion is legal. In the U.S., after the Roe v. Wade decision was overturned, abortion has no longer been a right guaranteed by the Constitution. Some states ban it and pregnant women must go to other states which allow abortion. In Poland, a woman was even arrested for helping women in abortion. Japanese women have pro-choice rights.
Japanese women’s rights may not be enough, however, at least, not serious.
